Iran imports around $500M of cars in 6 months

By Fatih Karimov - Trend: More than $496.94 million worth of cars were imported to Iran in the first six months of the current Iranian fiscal year, which began on March 21.

According to the Iran Customs Administration, 20,886 cars were imported to the country during the six-month period.

Import of cars was increased by 57 percent in number and 48 percent in value year on year.

In the sixth Iranian fiscal month (August 23-Septemer 22), 3,030 cars were imported, valued at $74.825 million, showing 70 percent fall in number and 62 percent fall in value compared to the year before.

Iran's car production dropped by 47.6 percent in the sixth fiscal month compared to the same month last year.

A total of 60,533 cars of different types were produced in the mentioned month, compared to 115,462 last year.

In the first six months of the current Iranian fiscal year, 501,104 sedan cars were manufactured in Iran, a 3.8 percent fall year-on-year.

The drop in car production started in the third fiscal month (May 22-June 21), in which 3,000 cars were produced less than the second fiscal month.
