An Iranian energy official has forecasted that the country’s power consumption in the coming summer would increase by five percent, causing massive power outages.

Mahmoud-Reza Haqiqan, a deputy head at Iran's Power Generation and Transmission Company (TAVANIR), has predicted that people in particular areas of the county may experience an overall power outage of 200 hours, ISNA news agency reported.

While the country over the last Iranian calendar year (starting on March 20) increased its power generation capacity by 2.5 gigawatts (GW), the capacity is projected to grow by 4.5 GW over the current year to post a nominal capacity of 81.1 GW.
