The activities of the nuclear committee of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) are suspended, a member of the Iranian parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Mohammad Saleh Jokar, said.

No meeting was held in the committee the last month, Jokar said, the country's Tasnim news agency reported Feb. 8.

The committee was a decision-making entity to discuss the country's nuclear case in terms of expertise fields, Jokar said, adding it was announced that there is now no need for the committee's viewpoints.

On the sidelines of a joint meeting between the administration and the legislature, the parliament's speaker, Ali Larijani suggested that Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the head of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, join the committee on behalf of the parliament, Jokar said.

"While the committee's activity is suspended, the parliament is no more able to survey the nuclear issue," he added.

Some hardliner MPs are not satisfied with the results and process of the ongoing nuclear talks between Iran and the P5+1 (the US, the UK, France, Russia, China and Germany).

They argue that the results of the nuclear talks have been against the Iranian people's interests so far.

The talks between Iran and the P5+1 have been extended until July 1, 2015 to reach a comprehensive nuclear agreement.

After the sides failed to meet the Nov. 24, 2014 deadline they also extended the Geneva nuclear deal, which was signed in November 2013 to provide Iran with some sanctions relief in exchange for Tehran agreeing to limit certain aspects of its nuclear activities.

The US and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon - something that Iran denies.
