Iran has summoned Pakistan's ambassador Noor Muhammad Jadmani to Tehran in connection with the recent attacks made by armed Baluchi rebels in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan.

Noor Muhammad Jadmani appeared at the Iranian foreign ministry on Oct. 18 night, the Islamic Republic's official IRNA news agency reported.

Rasoul Eslami, the foreign ministry's director general for West Asia has expressed Tehran's protest to Pakistan over "the use of the country's territory by terrorist groups crossing the border to attack Iranian border guards."

The official asked Pakistan to take serious measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Jadmani expressed sorrow over the death of Iranian border guards, adding he will convey Iran's concern and dissatisfaction to Islamabad.

Several armed attacks on the Iranian local security offices have been recently carried out by extremist groups, who claim they're fighting against the Iranian government for protection of Sunni residents of the province.

Iranian media outlets quoted the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps Brigadier General Rohambakhsh Habibi as saying that "a number of the bandits" were killed in the fighting in the province of Sistan and Baluchistan late on Oct. 16.

He added that a vehicle and "a noticeable volume" of arms and ammunition were seized from the rebels.

Meanwhile, a Pakistani official told AFP news agency that a paramilitary officer was killed and four soldiers wounded when their vehicle came under fire by Iranian border guards.

Earlier in October, four Iranian security forces were killed in armed attacks in the province.
