The US enmity with Iran is rooted, the Islamic Republic's Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said.

The two sides have different viewpoints in regional and global issues, he added.

The Iranian commander referred to stances towards Israel, resistance movement (anti-Israel Palestinian and Lebanese groups including Hamas and Hezbollah), Iraq and Syria as the principle differences between the sides.

Pourdastan also said the army plans to hold six military drills by March 2016, Iran 's official IRIB news agency reported July 22.

He added that the military exercises will focus on specific military expertise, will mainly be held in the southeast, northwest and southwest regions of the country.

One of the drills is scheduled jointly with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and Basij forces.

Iranian media outlets report that Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems in recent years.

Tehran established an arms development program during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s to counter the weapons embargo imposed on it by the U.S. and its Western allies.
