Iran welcomes the Persian Gulf states’ message to settle the disputes and boost ties, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said, the state-run IRINN TV reported.
Speaking to reporters before leaving Tehran for Muscat on Feb. 15 morning, Rouhani said that Kuwait has recently conveyed a message to Iran on behalf of six Gulf Cooperation Council members on resolving misunderstanding with Iran through dialogue and development of mutual ties.
“We welcome the main idea of the message and the issue of boosting cooperation will be discussed during the upcoming visit to Oman and Kuwait,” Rouhani said.
Friendly ties with neighboring countries and protecting security of Persian Gulf are among the principals of Iran’s foreign policy, the Iranian president said, adding that Tehran never intended to interfere in internal affairs of other countries or impose religious or political views.
Rouhani added that the regional security should be preserved by region’s countries, not foreigners.
Accompanied by a number of ministers, advisors and representatives of Iran's private sector, Rouhani left Tehran for Muscat on Feb. 15, on his regional tour to Oman and Kuwait.
Rouhani will return to the country Feb. 16 evening.
Rouhani's visit comes after Kuwait’s foreign minister paid a visit to Tehran late in January and delivered a message from the Kuwaiti emir to the Iranian president.
The Kuwaiti diplomat's one-day visit to Iran was the first by a senior official of a Persian Gulf Arab state to the Islamic Republic after relations between Tehran and some of the Arab countries suffered when Saudi Arabia severed its diplomatic ties with Iran in January last year.
