The role of Azerbaijan in the international arena is growing, Governing Board Chairman of Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Göran Lennmarker told Trend on Friday.
He is attending the Second Baku International Humanitarian Forum.
"Azerbaijan has been among economically fast growing countries. The country is in the centre of East-West and North-South. So it is a very good meeting place," he said.
According to Lennmarker, Baku is totally different city that it was 10 years ago. "The human development now keeps phase with the economic development, which is difficult," he said.
Lennmarker said the idea to have a humanitarian forum is excellent. "To divide forum in different sections I think is also good. You can debate and discuss more in detail about the different processes," he said.
Baku International Humanitarian Forum is an authoritative science and political global platform to search answers for global challenges, which were faced by humanity in the 21st Century through the holding of a wide range of dialogues, exchanges of opinions and discussion on the most important issues of humanitarian cooperation.
Co-founders of the forum are President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Famous state figures, Nobel laureates, 15 ex-presidents, heads of various countries' governments, ministers, well-known figures in the fields of education, science and culture, are attending the event.
The first Baku International Humanitarian Forum under the slogan "XXI century: hopes and challenges" took place in October of 2011.
