Ukraine government to undo controversial anti-protest law

The Ukraine government late Monday agreed to dismantle repressive anti-protest laws and extend amnesty for all protesters, and put forth another offer to the opposition to participate in government, dpa reported.

The moves came after a four-hour meeting with the main opposition group, which rejected the leadership offer, according to Justice Minister Yelena Lukash.

The conditions for amnesty would require the opposition to evacuate all public buildings and occupied streets. It was not clear if an additional demand by the opposition for earlier elections this year was discussed.

President Viktor Yanukovych met with opposition leaders Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Vitali Klitschko and nationalist leader Oleh Tyahnybok. Militant government opponents, who have threatened to blockade the entire government, opposed the meeting with the government.
