The Kazakh Federation of Trade Unions calls for labor groups, labor organizations and members of trade unions to remain calm, not to believe the false information and rumors that aim to breach the order and stability in the country in connection with riots in the city of Zhanaozen, the Federation said on Saturday.

The Kazakh Federation of Trade Unions calls for labor groups, labor organizations and members of trade unions to remain calm, not to believe the false information and rumors that aim to breach the order and stability in the country in connection with riots in the city of Zhanaozen, the Federation said on Saturday.

"We state that labor groups and members of trade unions were not involved in unconstitutional and illegal actions," the statement said.

Even in the most dramatic and difficult years of mass unemployment, trade unions and workers solved their problems within the law and through negotiations. They have never used such methods of violence, the document says.

"According to the Constitution, the collective labor disputes are resolved in Kazakhstan within the methods stipulated by the law, including the right to strike," the Federation of Trade Unions said.

At the same time, the Federation called for employers to comply with labor laws and the terms of the agreements, collective agreements and to solve the problems of workers.

Mass riots occurred in the Kazakh city of Zhanaozen, Mangistau region on December 16-17. According to the preliminary data, about 10 people died and several were injured, Kazakh prosecutor general Askhat Daulbaev said on Friday.

The employees of oil companies have struck in Mangistau region since May. The court found the protest as illegal. The companies dismissed thousands of workers for striking. Several strikers returned to work and new employees were appointed. The companies said that the volume of oil may decrease due to the protest of workers.
