In addition to the extensive preparations for the upcoming prestigious COP29 to be held in Baku from 11 to the 22 November this year, several initiatives are in progress to enhance awareness of pressing climate issues and promote ecological consciousness in society, involving the participation of youth.

“Cleanmob” coastal clean-up initiative took place at Shikh beach on the 14th of June, featuring volunteers from the COP29 Volunteering Programme. The initiative was aligned with the social campaign “World Clean Up Day”.

Over 150 volunteers participated in a cleanup organized in a special competition format to promote environmental responsibility and enhance team spirit. Afterward, the winners were awarded certificates. All waste, amounting to 1501 kg, was recycled in accordance with ecological standards for proper disposal.

After the cleanup, eco-training sessions and other activities were held to promote environmentally friendly practices among COP29 volunteers.

The main objective of the initiative was to involve young people in environmental protection efforts, particularly in coastal areas, to showcase responsible behaviour in promoting ecological and social responsibility, as well as public hygiene practices. Additionally, it sought to emphasize the significance of expediting global action for safeguarding coastal zones.

It is important to highlight that these initiatives go beyond just cleaning the coastal areas. By uniting young people from diverse backgrounds under a shared goal, they foster a spirit of collaboration that is crucial for tackling climate challenges and making real strides in safeguarding our planet.
