KAZAN, Russia, October 24. The time has come for reform of global governance institutions and expansion of responsible dialog in South-South and North-South formats, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at the first plenary session of the 16th BRICS Summit in the BRICS Plus format in Kazan, Trend reports.

“Unfortunately, today the world is rapidly heading towards schism. The number of wars and conflicts is growing, which brings enormous suffering, deep pain, and irreplaceable losses to people. Fragmentation of the global economy and trade is increasing inequality, technological divide, and protectionism. New barriers between countries are emerging,” he said.

The President of Uzbekistan noted that BRICS, operating under principles such as equality, non-alignment, consideration of each other's interests, respect for sovereignty, and the right to its own path of development, serves as a credible and dynamic association of multilateral cooperation and partnership.

“We are convinced that this model of interaction can become a solid basis for the formation of a new architecture of a fairer world order while preserving the central role of the United Nations. I support the voiced appeals to achieve a global compromise through constructive dialog, free from geopolitical rivalry, national egoism, and ideological bias,” he added.

Established in 2006, BRICS is an intergovernmental organization. Russia assumed the BRICS chairmanship on January 1, 2024. Currently, in addition to Russia, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa, the organization's members are Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
