KAZAN, Russia, October 24. Uzbekistan proposes to consider the possibility of joining the BRICS Business Council of all interested countries, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said at the first plenary session of the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan, Trend reports.

The President of Uzbekistan pointed out that the country stands behind the development of business contacts within the framework of the association, and the nation stands ready for engaging in close and mutually beneficial cooperation with BRICS countries to work towards achieving common goals of sustainable development.

“Together with our BRICS partners, we expect to work closely on strengthening transport interconnectivity, creating new transcontinental corridors, forming reliable logistics supply chains, and developing the cabotage transportation system. We will also focus on ensuring food and energy security, overcoming the negative consequences of climate change, and health protection,” he said.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev added that during the productive Russian presidency, Uzbekistan took an active part in the BRICS Youth Summit and Sports Games, legal and parliamentary forums, high-level security meetings, and other events.

BRICS is an intergovernmental organization established in 2006. Russia assumed the BRICS chairmanship on January 1, 2024. Currently, in addition to Russia, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa, the organization's members are Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
