BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 23. President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili supports the opposition, despite her supposed neutrality, Georgian analyst Zaal Anjaparidze told Trend.

According to him, the opposition plans to create a coordination platform on election day to monitor the process.

"The political situation in Georgia is becoming increasingly tense amid the elections. A significant feature of this election is the increased interference from Western countries, such as the US and the EU, which openly criticize the ruling party's policies and impose sanctions on its representatives. This creates an atmosphere of anxiety in society, with some fearing a worsening of the socio-economic situation and the possible cancellation of visa-free travel to Europe," Anjaparidze said.

The analyst pointed out that voters have the option to either vote for the ruling party and its policy, known as sovereign democracy, or support the opposition, mainly consisting of former authorities remembered for their nine-year rule marked by serious human rights violations and breaches of democratic principles.

"On the international stage, the interests of major players such as Russia and the West reflect their desire to influence the outcome of the elections in Georgia. The West is actively interfering through non-governmental organizations and sanctions. However, much will depend on the assessment of the elections by international observers, which could impact the legitimacy of potential opposition protests," he added.

To note, parliamentary elections will take place in Georgia on October 26.
