BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 24. Iran is looking to actively bolster its cooperation with China through the Joint Commission for Economic Interaction in the near future, said Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, Trend reports.

Pezeshkian emphasized that China is a close friend and a key trading partner for Iran. He expressed Iran's determination to eliminate any potential obstacles to developing relations with China and expanding cooperation between the two nations.

During their meeting, Xi Jinping reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening ties with Iran, stating, "Relations with Iran are important for China. We are prepared to protect the common interests of our countries. Iran and China can collaborate effectively across various fields, including economic, cultural, and military sectors."

Meanwhile, BRICS is an intergovernmental organization established in 2006. As of January 1, 2024, Russia has taken over the presidency of BRICS. The current members of the organization, in addition to Russia, include Brazil, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
