BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 24. Iran is determined to strengthen its bilateral relations with Qatar across all spheres, grounded in good neighborliness and mutual interest, said Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iranian Foreign Minister, Trend reports.

In a phone conversation with the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Araghchi emphasized that strengthening ties remains a priority, given Iran's strong and friendly relationship with Qatar.

He noted that Iran’s recent missile strike on the US’s Al Udeid military base in Qatar—conducted on June 22—was in response to what he described as Washington’s violation of Iran’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. This action should never be interpreted as being directed against the friendly and brotherly nation of Qatar, he stressed.

Araqchi added that Iran is engaging in consultations with regional countries to ensure that its ties with neighbors remain unaffected by current tensions.

He welcomed Qatar’s stance following the recent attacks on Iran by Israel and the US and praised Doha’s constructive efforts to help de-escalate the situation in the region.

During the same call, Sheikh Mohammed reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to playing a constructive role in safeguarding peace and stability across the region.

The exchange came in the aftermath of a series of escalatory attacks: on June thirteenth, Israel launched airstrikes on Iran, reportedly killing high-ranking military officials, nuclear scientists, and other top figures. Iran retaliated that evening with "True Promise III"—a barrage of ballistic missiles and drones targeting multiple sites in Israel, including Tel Aviv, resulting in civilian casualties and widespread destruction.

On the morning of June 13, Israel carried out airstrikes against Iran. The attacks killed numerous high-ranking military officials, including Mohammad Bagheri, Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces General Staff; Hossein Salami, Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC); and Gholam Ali Rashid, head of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, along with six nuclear scientists and other senior figures.

That same evening, Iran launched a retaliatory strike dubbed “Operation True Promise III,” firing hundreds of ballistic missiles and drones at multiple targets across Israel, including Tel Aviv. The attacks caused civilian casualties and widespread damage.

To note, the US conducted airstrikes targeting three nuclear facilities in Iran on June 22, reportedly causing significant damage.

Iran later retaliated by striking a U.S. military base in Qatar on the evening of June 23.

Today, the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announced that the government has agreed to a ceasefire with Iran, brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump.
