BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 24. Azerbaijan was elected Chairman of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Committee of the Permanent Representatives (CPR) Bureau for the first time on June 24, 2025, Trend reports via the Azerbaijani MFA.
"Our country's chairmanship of the CPR Bureau will cover the years 2025-2027.
The UNEP CPR serves as the principal standing entity of the UN
Environment Assembly, comprising 193 member states, and delineates
strategic priorities concerning environmental matters on a global
scale. The CPR Bureau executes a multitude of critical operations
in the formulation of the Assembly's resolutions regarding
international environmental frameworks and standards.
The Azerbaijani leadership within the bureau will be epitomized by
our esteemed Ambassador to Kenya and Permanent Representative to
UNEP, Sultan Hajiyev.
The synergistic engagement of Azerbaijan with the United Nations
Environment Programme, which orchestrated the Conference of the
Parties 29 in November 2024, is experiencing a trajectory of
dynamic evolution, bolstered by its burgeoning international
stature through multifaceted global initiatives and activities
addressing environmental stewardship and climate resilience.
The designation of Azerbaijan as the presiding entity, coupled with
the endorsement of UNEP as the designated host for the World
Environment Day (WED2026) scheduled for 2026, underscores the
potential trajectories of this collaborative engagement,"
articulated the MFA.
