BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 24. A total of 12 blades of four turbines with a capacity of 6.5 MW each have been delivered to Baku for the Khizi-Absheron wind power plant (WPP), Spokesperson of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA) Kamal Hajiyev told Trend.

"Components for other turbines are being delivered on schedule. Installation will begin in the Absheron district, where the first eight turbines will be installed. In wind energy, the efficiency of power production depends on wind speed. The recorded average annual wind speed is sufficiently high for the effective operation of the turbines and will ensure stable energy production within the project.

The plant, covering an area of 36 hectares, will promote the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies and diversify energy resources in Azerbaijan, increasing the share of renewable sources in electricity generation," he added.

To note, the WPP project, which supports Azerbaijan's transition to green energy, is the first project of ACWA Power in the country.

The plant will be constructed in two locations: Zone-1 in the Absheron district and Khizi-3 in the Khizi district, featuring 37 wind turbines designed for optimal wind capture.

The project aligns with Azerbaijan’s goals of economic diversification and modernization of its energy system, including increasing foreign direct investment in the non-oil sector, as outlined in the Strategic Roadmap for the National Economic Prospects. The Khizi-Absheron wind power plant is a key component of these diversification efforts.
