RUSSIA, Kazan, October 24. It is important to take practical steps for a real transition to a “green” economy, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon said at the first plenary session of the 16th BRICS Summit in the BRICS Plus format in Kazan, Trend reports.
“It is extremely important to take practical steps toward the real transition to a green economy, the most important component of which is green energy,” Rahmon said.
According to him, a layer of problems is related to the effects of climate change; disasters, which have become more frequent due to these natural elements, are claiming lives.
"Warming is reducing the area of glaciers in Central Asia, which are one of the main sources of water resources in the region." Next May, following the UN General Assembly resolution, our country is planning to hold a high-level international conference on glacier conservation in the city of Dushanbe. We invite your countries to participate in this event. In the context of climate change, drought, one of the global problems, affects all countries, including our Central Asian region," Rahmon added.
The President noted that instability in the world has a direct impact on the socio-economic development of developing countries.
He stated that the threats of international terrorism, extremism, radicalism, cybercrime, illegal arms trafficking, drug trafficking, and other types of cross-border organized crime are also increasing.
"Only a clear and consistent strategy can counter them. Tajikistan invariably favors expanding cooperation with all international partners in combating these threats and challenges,” he concluded.
