BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 24. Mexico believes it is essential to continue efforts toward the complete elimination of anti-personnel mines, Mexico's Ambassador to Azerbaijan María Victoria Romero Caballero said at a roundtable discussion in Baku dedicated to the landmine victims, Trend reports.

“We are sure that we need to get rid of all antipersonnel mines and pay attention to the terrible humanitarian effects they have on civilians as well as the recovery and growth of communities that have been impacted,” the ambassador said.

She pointed out that Mexico is all in when it comes to championing the needs of landmine victims and is throwing its weight behind international cooperation to lend a helping hand to these individuals and communities.

“We need to double our efforts to secure financial, technical, and humanitarian resources for their social and economic integration,” she added.

The ambassador underscored the importance of better understanding the situation on the ground, gathering data, and ensuring ongoing medical assistance, physical and psychological rehabilitation, as well as socio-economic support for those affected by landmines.

She noted that affected countries must develop policies to further achieve these goals.

The Azerbaijan Campaign Against Mines Public Association organizes the roundtable. The event features representatives from organizations involved in mine action and support for mine victims, including members of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) and the Azerbaijani Parliament.

Participants also include representatives from the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the YAŞAT Foundation, the Ombudsman’s Office, landmine survivors, and NGO representatives.
