KAZAN, Russia, October 24. The BRICS nations have the potential to significantly contribute to the realization of multilateral interests by leveraging their valuable resources and robust economies to enhance cooperation and economic connections, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said at the first plenary session of the XVI BRICS Plus summit in Kazan today, Trend reports.
Pezeshkian emphasized that unilateral sanctions have severely impacted international relations and norms.
The head of state noted that sanctions are a major barrier preventing countries from accessing their financial resources. He also highlighted that climate change poses serious challenges to international efforts aimed at combating global warming and delivering humanitarian aid.
BRICS, an intergovernmental organization, came into existence in 2006. Russia assumed the BRICS chairmanship on January 1, 2024. Currently, in addition to Russia, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa, the members of the organization are Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia.
