ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, June 14. Farmers in the Lebap region of Turkmenistan have hit the jackpot this season, collecting a whopping 1,047 tons of silkworm cocoons, Trend reports.
According to the official data, farmers in the region knocked it out of the park this season by exceeding the planned figure of 1010 tons.
Specialists from Koitendag, Kerki, Halach, Danew, and Charjew districts of the Lebap region were the first in the country to fulfill their obligations to harvest silkworm cocoons.
In general, this year, farmers handed over more than 2,100 tons of silkworm cocoons to the state, thereby fully fulfilling the plan.
Overall, during the last year, farms around Turkmenistan
collected more than 2,300 tons of silkworm cocoons, substantially
exceeding the plan.
One of Turkmenistan's most important agricultural products is silk,
which is predominantly produced in the Mary, Ahal, and Lebap
districts.
The Ashgabat Silk Factory and the Turkmenabat Silk Production
Association are among Turkmenistan's top sericulture firms.
