BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, June 15. Kyrgyzstan has sown over 656,000 hectares of land with spring crops as of May 23 this year, which is 4,000 hectares, or 0.6 percent, less than the same date last year, Trend reports.
According to the National Statistical Agency, the decrease in spring crop sowing compared to the same date last year is due to the reduced planting speed of spring wheat by 4.5 percent, corn for grain by 8 percent, grain legumes by 4 percent, cotton by 32 percent, oilseeds by 11 percent, potatoes by 7 percent, and vegetables by 2 percent.
However, the sown area for perennial herbs increased by more than 9,000 hectares, or 31 percent; barley by 6,000 hectares, or 2.6 percent; and sugar beets by 500 hectares, or 4.3 percent.
The largest share of spring crop sowing was in the Chuy region, with more than 35 percent of the total, followed by the Issyk-Kul region with 15 percent, the Osh region with 14 percent, and the Jalal-Abad region with more than 12 percent.
Additionally, as of May 23, agricultural producers have fertilized winter crops over an area of 85,100 hectares and conducted spring plowing over an area of 630,800 hectares.
