Iran's embassy in Syria makes statement on abduction of 7 iranian technicians

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 21 / Trend, S. Isayev, T. Jafarov/

Iran's embassy in Syria released a statement regarding the 8 captured Iranians, Mehr reported.

According to the statement, the abduction took place at approximately 6:30. Eight Iranian electricians, five of which are engineers, were abducted by unknown armed group in Syria's Homs city.

Iran's embassy statement said the embassy hopes for the abducted to be released as soon as possible.

The technicians have been involved in building the city's power plant over the past two years. They were going to work on the "Jandar" electrostation via the bus, when the connection with them was lost, Press TV reported.

Homs has been the scene of recent unrest in Syria that originated in mid-March, with demonstrations being held both against and in favor of President Bashar al-Assad.

While the West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of violence, Damascus blames ''outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups'' for the unrest that erupted in mid-March, insisting that it is being orchestrated from abroad.

Armed gangs have recently kidnapped many Syrian civilians and security forces in the city.
