The President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili summoned the chief of Joint Staff of the Armed Forces of Georgia Giorgi Kalandadze and told him to resume his duties.

Saakashvili has today received Kalandadze, who has been released on bail this morning, at the presidential palace, the President's administration reported.

"What happened should be left behind, and despite of different political trends and priorities, our army remains united and strong, that is the merit of such officers as you are. You have shed blood in the war in August 2008, and were able to provide the time, which was necessary for the withdrawal of the Georgian population from the war zone, and we will never forget it, "he said.

Saakashvili mentioned that governments, political parties and presidents come and go, but the state institutions, including the army, remain.

"I charge you to return to the Joint Staff and resume your activity," said Saakashvili.

Kalandadze is under investigation on the fact of abuse of authority. He was released on the bail of 20 thousands lari ($ 1 = 1.66 lari) before the trial.
