The purpose of Georgia's statement on Syria is only to support the peacemaking initiatives of the U.S., the First Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister of Georgia David Zalkaliani said on Wednesday commenting on the joint statement with the U.S.
The initiative is supported by 33 countries, and this number will increase even more, First Deputy Foreign Minister said.
"The statement is aimed at only supporting the peacemaking initiatives of the US. In particular the matter rests in that the use of chemical weapon is a violation of the norms of international law and it is necessary to support the efforts applied by the U.S. and the international community for banning usage of chemical weapon. Naturally, we also join this initiative. The statement does not speak about the participation in a military operation, the matter rests only in a peaceful initiative," Zalkaliani said.
