Tens of thousands of Italians marched in the southern Italian city of Potenza on Saturday to protest organized crime and commemorate its victims, dpa reported.
The demonstration was organized by Don Luigi Ciotti, a pastor, who has campaigned against the Mafia with his group Libera for years. Libera sources said 80,000 people participated in the march. Police estimates put the crowd at 40,000.
The march included family members of victims of Mafia crimes across Italy and Europe.
"It is deeply moving to look into the eyes of a family member of a murdered person," said Ciotti.
He added that the high turnout shows how important it is to remember Mafia victims once a year. Local politicians said the march was "testament to an Italy that won't give up."
Libera has staged the anti-Mafia march regularly since 1995.
