The German Chancellor's chief foreign policy adviser Christoph Heusgen at a meeting with Georgian parliamentary chairman David Bakradze expressed his support for Georgia's foreign policy towards European integration, the Georgian Parliament said on Wednesday.

The meeting discussed preparations for the NATO Summit in Chicago, security issues, Georgian-Russian relations and the situation in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, Bakradze said after the meeting.

He said Heusgen confirmed Germany's position towards Georgia's territorial integrity and its sovereignty. Bakradze also informed Heusgen about the election and political situation in the country.

"I asked for Germany's assistance in sending observers from international missions to Georgia as soon as possible in order to avoid any unnecessary problems on the pre-election situation, as the authorities are interested in holding free and fair elections," Bakradze said.
