Hungary recognizes neutral travel documents of residents of Georgian breakaway regions

Tbilisi, Georgia, Jan.14
By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Hungary has recognized the neutral travel documents of residents of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region, Office of the State Minister for Reconciliation and Civil Equality told Trend on Jan.14.

Neutral travel document allows the population of Georgia's breakaway regions to freely move to foreign countries.

Hungary became the twelfth country after Japan, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, USA, Bulgaria, Poland, Israel, Estonia, Romania, agreed to recognize the document introduced by Georgia that became the target of criticism by Russia and the authorities of the breakaway regions.

Large scale military action was launched in South Ossetia on August 8, 2008. Later, Russian troops occupied Tskhinvali and expelled the Georgian military.
Russia recognised the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia in late August. In response, Tbilisi ended diplomatic relations with Moscow and has called the two unrecognised republics of Abkhazia and South Ossetia occupied territories.
