Tbilisi, Georgia, Oct.6
By Nana Kirtzkhalia - Trend:

Georgian delegation left for Geneva Oct. 6 to participate in the next 29th round of international discussions, which will take place October 7-8.

The agenda of the Geneva negotiations again covers such issues as the non-use of force, the involvement of international security mechanisms and the return of the refugees and internally displaced persons, according to the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Georgia.

In addition, the Georgian side, during the meeting, will raise the issue about the decision of the de facto authorities of the breakaway Abkhazia region to close the so-called checkpoints on the administrative border.

The Geneva negotiations were convened after the armed conflict in Georgia in August 2008, in accordance with the ceasefire agreement of August 12.

On the night of August 8, 2008, military actions were launched on the territory of South Ossetia, Georgia. Later the Russian troops occupied the city and drove back the Georgian military.

In late August, Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced two unrecognized republics as occupied territories.
