Trend:

The US intelligence was aware of Russia's plans to begin an air operation against the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in Syria, US President Barack Obama said in an interview with CBS TV channel, RIA Novosti reported.

"We knew that Russian President Vladimir Putin was planning to render military assistance to Syrian counterpart Bashar al Assad because they were worried about Assad quitting," Obama said.

President Putin said that Moscow warned the West in advance of the operation in Syria, including "US partners".

President Putin said that this was done proceeding from good will and the desire to show that we are open to work together.

On September 30, Russia's Sukhoi Su-25, Su-24M and Su-34 attack aircraft, with the support of Su-30 jets, began precision airstrikes against ISIL targets in Syria, following a request from Syrian President Bashar Assad.
