A 14-year old inhabitant of the village of Dayigkend in the Salyan district of Azerbaijan, Ajdar Askerov, was hospitalized in Salyan Central Hospital with signs of pneumonia. The Head Physician of Salyan Hospital, Ibrahim Jafarov, informed a Trend Regional Correspondent that the patient has been sent to Baku for examination and treatment.

As a result of the examination in a Baku laboratory, the bird flu virus has not been discovered in his blood. However, according to the senior officials of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Health, the examinations will be sent to London and right after this, the exact diagnosis will be made. Three out of 5 people who sustained the dangerous virus last year in Azerbaijan were inhabitants of the village of Dayigkend in the Salyan district.

According to Jafarov, a team of doctors are inspecting houses in the village of Dayigkend, but signs of the dangerous disease have not been discovered. The Chief of the Salyan Veterinary Department, Muhammad Askerov, stated that mass death of birds has not been observed in the village. Monitoring is held in Salyan, including Dayigkend village, twice a month. Samples are analysed in local laboratories and laboratories of Baku, but the virus H5N1 has not been discovered up to now.
