Azerbaijan, as a country playing a major role in the development of the Caspian region, supports diversifying energy routes and believes tha tthe country is a key factor in the West's goal to ensure energy security, Abdullayev said at the conference, "Geopolitics of the Caspian Sea and Azerbaijanis in the U.S. under the Obama administration" in Chicago.

In his speech, Abdullayev said regional projects initiated by Azerbaijan have given a major boost for the region's integration into Europe. However, Armenia's continued occupation of Azerbaijani territories prevents their widespread implementation, he added.
