Opening of UN Inter-regional Centre on Climate Change in Ashgabat discussed

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov received the Deputy Regional Bureau Director for Europe and the CIS Jens Wandel, who arrived in Ashgabat on a working visit, national Altyn Asyr TV channel reported on Wednesday.
The meeting discussed issues relating to the opening of the UN Inter-regional Centre on Climate Change in Ashgabat to address the challenges of climate change on the planet and the participation of a Turkmen delegation at the forthcoming World Summit on climate change in Rio de Janeiro.
The conversation touched upon priority issues and prospects for partnership, covering a wide range of areas such as social, economic, legal and humanitarian, as well as education, health and environment.
According to the report, Berdimuhammadov emphasised that "the strengthening and comprehensive enhancing of cooperation with the UN is a strategic priority of Turkmenistan's foreign policy which recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of the country's accession to this largest international organisation."
Wandel stressed "a special urgency of international initiatives put forward by the Turkmen leader aimed at addressing today's urgent problems."
