Heydar Aliyev’s Fund sets up the implementation of the project on construction of
a specialized center on diagnosis and treatment of thalassemia, Anar Alakbarov, the Executive Director of the Fund, told Trend.
According to Alakbarov, a resolution on the establishment of the Center was adopted at the initiative of Mehriban Aliyeva, the First Lady, the President of the Heydar Aliyev Fund, Good-Will Ambassador of UNESCO. The project will be implemented under the program on Life without Thalassemia. The Fund launched the implementation of the program from February 2005. Taking into consideration the difficulty and expensiveness of the treatment for children and their parents, the number of the diseased in the county was defined and opportunities for their treatment was analyzed at the instruction of the President of the Heydar Aliyev. Besides, a �roundtable’ on �Life without Thalassemia’ was held in February with the participation of the President of the Fund, representatives of the public, foreign countries, international organizations, the International Federation of Thalassemia to mull the prospects of cooperation in removal of the problem, the Fund’s Executive Director underlined.
According to Alakbarov, during the recent visit of highly-qualified doctors from
Appropriate area has been allocated for the construction of the center, relevant work over feasibility study of the project o be financed by the Fund are underway, he underlined. The Fund has appealed to several international donor organizations for assistance, and received several positive answers.
According to Alakbarov, they simultaneously attach importance to the development of donor services for secure and high-quality treatment of children diseased with donor blood. In this respect it is planned to establish a center of blood bank. At present the Consultative Council comprised of representatives from the international organizations and foreign organizations is considering the efficiency of the project.
Heydar Aliyev’s Fund intends to present to the government it recommendations and proposals on the adoption of the State Program on Assistance to thalassemia.
