Draft law on gender equality discussed at parliament

A regular meeting of Milli Mejlis took place on March 10. According to Trend, a draft laws on Provision of gender equality and on Fito-sanitary have been under discussion.

The chairman of the parliamentary commission on human rights, Rabiyyat Aslanova, said in her remarks that the first bill provides regulations against the discrimination on the basis of sex, and provision of gender equality.

She also emphasized that these regulations are also presented in the legislative documents of Switzerland, Portugal, Russia, Norway, Finland and other countries. Aslanova also underlined the necessity for adoption of the document

The idea of the draft law was also supported by the Chairman of the parliamentary commission on social policy, Hadi Rajabli. However, he suggested introducing changes into the name of the bill. Equality between men and women does not seem to be the proper name. I suggest calling the project Provision of equal rights to men and women, he said.

The bill received a number of comments and suggestions from Ali Masimov, Vahid Ahmedov, Khangusein Kazimli, Elmira Akhundova and some other MPs.
