African Plague Kills 50 Pigs in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Gabala, 29 January / Trend corr E. Guliyev / African Plague killed 48 pigs in the Nij village in the Azerbaijani Gabala region, the Chief Veterinarian in the region Rahman Abdurahmanov said to Trend.

"The disease appeared in the village on 2 January and 80 pigs have caught the virus so far," the Veterinarian said.

Disinfectant barriers were set at the entrance and exit of the village and the population of the village are being instructed in this connection.

Nij has one of the country's largest pig farms - 4,000 heads.

On 28 January, the State Veterinary Service attached to the Agricultural Ministry placed the village in quarantine. It is the first time the African Plague virus appeared in Azerbaijan.
