Since the beginning of real estate privatization in Azerbaijan in 1990, and by July 1, 2009, the country had privatized 23.1 million square meters, or 421,900 apartments, the State Committee on Statistics said.
"Privatized real estate in Azerbaijan comprises 68.9 percent," the committee said.
In January-June, Azerbaijan privatized 313,100 square meters, or 4,900 apartments. Some 2,900 of these apartments, or 61.6 percent, were privatized in Baku.
In 1989Azerbaijan adopted the law on the "Privatization of housing fund of Azerbaijan". The law involves the granting of apartments to citizens, meaning they shift from state to private ownership.
