IFC, Tajik bank agree to increase funding for agriculture in southern Tajikistan

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), member of the World Bank Group, and one of the largest banks in Tajikistan "Tojiksodirotbank" signed a contract to provided consultancy to the bank to increase the portfolio of financing of agricultural equipment in Khatlon region in the south, CA-News was told in the representation of IFC in Dushanbe on Monday.

IFC will conduct a study of farms in the region and create a database of potential clients.

"IFC will also identify potential suppliers of agricultural equipment and help to choose the suppliers for potential customers," said the IFC representative office.

The Bank intends to finance the acquisition of tractors needed for farmers.

The IFC project on development of financing for agriculture and improvement of the business environment in Tajikistan is funded by the European Union. The project aims at improving the regulatory environment in the field of agriculture and access to funding, focusing on agricultural equipment leasing and financing.

IFC significantly expanded its investment program in Tajikistan and invested $27 million in 10 projects in the financial market, production and infrastructure over the past three years.
