Kazakhstan, Finland trade sees increase after years of decline

After many years of decline, trade volume between Kazakhstan and Finland has slightly increased since 2018, Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Trend.

According to the representative of the ministry, countries have lot of contacts in many levels and sectors.

“Our bilateral relations are excellent. Relations between Finland and Kazakhstan are practical and focused on trade. In Central Asia, we have had most contacts with Kazakhstan,” the official said.

The representative noted that relations between Kazakhstan and Finland are focused on trade.

“Trade, business and investments have always been the backbone of the strong relations with Kazakhstan,” he said.

The official also noted that countries have wide cooperation in education.

“Our educational institutions have trained over 1,000 experts on different fields and we have achieved significant results on this cooperation,” he said.

Talking about the future of bilateral relations between the countries, the official noted that Finland is interested in growing trade volume, and continue cooperation in fields such as education, clean technology, digitalization and logistics.

“We also wish to keep the excellent bilateral relations with the new President of Kazakhstan Kassym Jomart Tokayev,” the official concluded.

The main items of the Kazakh export to Finland are oil and petroleum products, coal and briquettes, associated gas and wheat.

Kazakhstan's import from Finland consists of industrial equipment and machinery, paper and cardboard, petroleum products, chemicals, medicines, medical equipment, and cosmetic products.

Furthermore, countries have established over 100 joint ventures, branches and representative offices of Finnish legal entities in Kazakhstan, including «Tikkurila», «Honka», «Outotec», «Reka Cables», «Lindström», «Onninen» and others.
