Uzbekistan, Japan in talks to enhance strategic partnership despite COVID-19

Uzbekistan, Japan discussed issues of further enhancing interaction in the political, trade, and economic sphere, Trend reports with reference to the embassy of Uzbekistan in Tokyo.

To discuss the development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Tokyo held a meeting with the newly appointed parliamentary deputy foreign minister of Japan Satoshi Nakanishi.

During the meeting, the historical nature of the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Japan, which took place in December 2019, was noted, which brought bilateral relations between states to a new level.

The parties stressed the importance to intensify efforts to practically implement all the agreements reached during the visit despite the coronavirus pandemic.

The Japanese side welcomed the entry into force on October 17, 2019, of the Interstate Convention on the Elimination of Double Taxation between Uzbekistan and Japan, which was signed during the high-level visit.

Parties substantively discussed issues of further enhancing interaction in the political, trade, and economic spheres, as well as mutual support of candidates from Uzbekistan and Japan within the framework of international organizations.

They also discussed plans for joint work to successfully hold the 8th online meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Central Asia + Japan Dialogue in Tokyo, as well as celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Japan in 2022.
