By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Georgia’s wine exports amounted to $210 million in 2020 that is 6.3 percent of total exports, Trend reports via Georgian media.

Despite a nominal decline by $13 million, its share increased by 0.4 percentage points in one year.

In 2001-2020, Georgia sold wine worth $1.85 billion that is 17 percent less than France's annual exports. Georgia's share of the global wine market is 0.6 percent that is 3-fold exceeds the total exports.

Russia ranks ninth in terms of wine imports (3.1 percent of the total imports), although still more than 60 percent of Georgian wine is still sold in Russia.

If in 2005 wine export amounted to $81 million, after the Russian embargo in 2006 exports halved, in 2007 it decreased to $ 29 million, and by 2012 grew to only $65 million. After the recovery of the Russian market, exports in 2013 exceeded $100 million, in 2019 exceeded $200 million.

The growth rate is relatively low but more stable in the spirits market. During the Russian embargo, in 2007-2012 alcohol exports exceeded wine.
