In 2006 transportation of oil and oil-products via the Azerbaijani railway is supposed to be increased by 3m tons, the Azerbaijan State Railway Department (ASRD) told Trend. It arises from the applications for cargo transportation, presented by Azpetrol and Middle East Petrol, traders on the railway.
In 2005 ASRD transported 26.2m tons of different cargoes, including, 73.7% (19.2m tons) - oil and oil-products, 19.4% - construction materials, rest - soda, metals.
ASRD noted that they were currently taking measures to carry out increasing cargo transportation. In particular, the body supposes to purchase and repair fleet of locomotives.
