In 2005 Azerbaijan transported 161,9m tons of different cargos. From the total amount the transport sector transported 109,5m tons of cargo, or 10.4% more as compared 2004, Trend reports referring to Ziya Mammadov, the Azerbaijani Transpport Minsiter. In 2005 the passenger transportation comprised 852,7m people, 4.5% more as compared 2004.
Azerbaijani ports handled 8.3m tons of different cargos, or 43% more than 2004. 46.7m tons of cargo was transported through the Eurasian transport corridor. 41.9m AZN was transferred to the public budget, 1,551 new jobs were opened over 2005.
According to Mammadov, 516,7km roads for 20m AZN were repaired during 2005. Azerbaijan invested 25.7m AZN into the reconstruction of highways within the loans of the international finance organizations.
