Azerbaijan Commences Gas Supply to Georgia

Azerbaijan, Baku, 22 April / corr. Trend S.Aliyev/ The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will start supplying gas to Georgia. At present, preparation work is being carried out and the gas supply will began in 1 to 2 days, a source in the Azerbaijani government said on 22 April.

Some 1.3-1.5mln cu. m. of gas will be pumped to Georgia per day, with a total of 500mln cu. m. during whole of 2008, a source said. But, he did not divulge the cost of supplied gas. But it is assumed that the price for supplied gas will be more than that of last year. In 2007, Azerbaijan supplied Georgia with gas at $120 for 1,000 cu. meters. In 2008, the price of Azerbaijani gas for Georgia may be increased up to $180-$190 for 1000 cu. meters.

Georgia purchases gas from Russia at $235 for 1,000 cu. m.

SOCAR produces gas from its own fields.
