SOCAR to bring number of own petrol stations over 60 units in Georgia

The total number of petrol stations under SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) brand will be brought to 62-63 units by late 2010, a source at SOCAR Energy Georgia, which is SOCAR's subsidiary in Georgia, reported.

The company will commission two more petrol stations soon. The total number of petrol stations under SOCAR brand reached 46 units after commissioning of new petrol station in Marneuli.

Co-founders of SOCAR Energy Georgia are: SOCAR - 51 percent, Petro-Trans FZCO - 24,5 percent and Ivan Chkhartishvili - 24,5 percent.

SOCAR also deployed its activities in retail sales of petroleum products in Azerbaijan in 2010. The company has recently opened two more petrol stations in Baku. The total number of petrol stations under SOCAR brand reached 5 in Azerbaijan. It is planned to bring the number of SOCAR branded petrol stations up to 26 units.

SOCAR head Rovnag Abdullayev said earlier that the opening of petrol stations is part of the company's development strategy. The strategy involves work including the production of hydrocarbons, refining, production and sale on the market of retail sales.
