Azerbaijani oil transportation via BTC drops

The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline transported 4.69 million tons of oil in January-February 2016, as compared to 4.7 million tons in the same period 2015, said the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR on its website March 3.

The BTC mainly transports the Azeri Light oil produced at the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field. Aside from the Azerbaijani oil, the pipeline also transports oil from Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan.

The pipeline transported 759,280 tons of Kazakh and Turkmen oil in January-February 2016.

In total, since the start of its operation, BTC has transported 297.36 million tons of oil.

SOCAR also said that 5.24 million tons of oil was delivered to world markets from Turkey's Ceyhan port in January-February 2016, compared to 4.82 million tons in January-February 2015.

In total, 296.43 million tons of Azerbaijani oil has been delivered to world markets from Ceyhan port since the BTC became operational.

The total length of the BТС is 1,768 kilometers, including a 443-kilometer section running through Azerbaijan, a 249-kilometer section in Georgia and a 1,076-kilometer section in Turkey.

The construction of the pipeline started in April 2003. It was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.
