Kazakh KazMunayGas to establish petrochemical goods export to EU countries

Kazakhstan’s KazMunayGas (KMG) national oil and gas company will launch export of some petrochemical goods to EU countries, Trend reports with reference to KMG.

The company said that benzene and paraxylene manufactured by company’s Atyrau refinery have receive international REACH certification and thus may be exported to the EU countries.

The company noted that only goods that meet both international and EU quality standards receive REACH certificates.

“This certification is designed to provide a high level of protection of public health and the environment, as well as free circulation of chemicals, while increasing competitiveness and stimulating innovation. Chemical companies in the EU are required to provide information on chemicals they produce or import,” the company said.

The REACH certificate was issued in several stages, during which all the necessary documentation was prepared to obtain a registration number, the importing organization (Atyrau refinery) was registered, in the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), as well as was joined to the Joint Submission System.

The complex for aromatic hydrocarbon production constructed within the framework of the Atyrau refinery modernization is able to produce over 133,000 tons of benzene and 496,000 tons of paraxylene a year.

KMG is Kazakhstan’s operator for exploration, production, refining and transportation of hydrocarbons, representing the state interests in the oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan. The company was established by way of merger of Kazakhoil National Oil and Gas Company and Oil and Gas Transportation National Company pursuant in February, 2002.
