Azerbaijan has capacities to increase the number of small hydro-electric power stations 2-3 times. At present there are 16 small hydro-power stations in the territory of the country with total production capacity of 25 MW, Natik Aliyev, the Minister for Industry and Energy, told Trend.
According to Aliyev, so far 100 projects on small HPSs have been designed. The total potential of energy generation of the country comprises approximately 40 billion KW/h, while technically it is possible to generate 15 billion KW/h, including 5 billion KW/h by small HPSs. Along with the ecological safety the use of small HPS, will lead save 850,000 tons of mazut, Aliyev stressed.
