Azerbaijan, Mexico to sign inter-governmental cooperation agreement in ICT

Azerbaijan and Mexico will sign an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in information and communication technologies, the Azerbaijani Communications and Information Technologies Ministry said.

The Plenipotentiary Conference will take place in Mexico Oct.4-22. Azerbaijan at the meeting will be represented by Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov.

Over 2,000 delegates, including the presidents and VIP-persons from more than 160 countries, will attend the conference.

The Plenipotentiary Conference is the top policy-making body of the ITU, which includes 192 countries, about 700 private companies, as well as national, regional and international organizations responsible for making future policies of the organization.

Held every four years, the Conference sets the Union's general policies, adopts four-year strategic and financial plans and elects the senior management team of the organization, the members of Council and the members of the Radio Regulations Board.

Azerbaijan nominated its candidacy for election to the ITU Board in the group of countries in the region "C". Earlier in the elections, Azerbaijan was unable to enter the Board in the group of countries in the region "C", gaining 57 votes. Elections were held in five regions: "A", "B", "C", "D" and "E".
