Thousands of protesters gathered in Cairo's Tahrir Square, demanding an end to military rule, rejected a speech given by the head of the ruling military council, Hussein Tantawi, on Tuesday, dpa reported.
The crowd began to chant "Leave" and "The people want to overthrown the Field Marshal," in reference to Tantawi, who is also the defence minister, as he announced plans to cede military power.
Other activists began to post their reactions online, where many described the address as the same as speeches given by ousted president Hosny Mubarak.
